Cause

The cause for Klinefelter syndrome is unknown. Research shows that it occurs most when an older women gives birth.

Symptoms

Males with this disease are considered infertile, larger than normal breast size, thin, tall, more likely to be obese, and do not have a strong sex drive.

Diagnostic Tests

Newborn baby boys are screened for this disease.

It is diagnosed when a male is born with more than one X chromosome. Some have two. Some have three or four X's. The more X's the more the effect of the disease is exaggerated.

Differential Diagnosis

Treatment

Males with the Klinefelter Syndrome receive testosterone at puberty. This helps the boys develop more body hair, muscles, and helps with future sex drives. They can lead normal lives, but these men have the same chances of getting breast cancer that women have because of their breast.

Prevention

There is no known way to prevent the Klinefelter Syndrome.
