Yaws is a disease caused by Treponema pertenue and is a chronic granulomatous disease seen particularly in children in rural areas in the tropics. Infection is by direct contact through broken skin, and is aided by poor hygeine and overcrowding.

Differential Diagnosis

Treatment

Treatment is by a single dose of penicillin, erythromycin or tetracycline. Recurrence or relapse is uncommon.
